For real can someone tell me if they’ve heard this before because I downloaded it ages ago and it’s tagged right but I don’t know Godspeed’s whole discography but this is a thing I have and I haven’t heard anywhere else
And I swear on the side of the tape (if that’s what it is) that i have you hear a voiceover from the guy from Sleep that I haven’t heard anywhere else
But again I only really know Skinny Fists, F#A# and Slow Riot so
Godspeed You! Black Emperor have now issued a statement in response to their win. The band thanked Canada for the nomination and prize (“it feels nice to be acknowledged by the Troubled Motherland when we so often feel orphaned here”) and noted their respect for Canadian music journalists. The statement also commented on the absurdity of having Toyota sponsor the prize “during a summer where the melting northern ice caps are live-streaming on the internet, IS FUCKING INSANE, and comes across as tone-deaf to the current horrifying malaise…”
What's going on with the A.L.F.O.T.H.A.D. copy? Does one exist?!?!!?
As of right now, it looks like one does. Some guy apparently bought one of the original 33 copies at some record store in Montreal like 17 years ago or something, listened to it, didn’t really like it, and stuck it in a box until yesterday. He researched it, asked about it on Reddit, uploaded 2 of the tracks, then got butthurt because of one of the ignorant Reddit users and gave up. Now he’s trying to decide what to do next.
*One last update for the time being. I may have been a bit of dick walking away from this yesterday. For all the people being rude there are a good portion of you who seem to understand the dilemma I find myself in (For that I am grateful) This is what I’ve done. I’ve spoken to a friend who I trust and he’s agreed to sell the cassette on ebay for me. Before It comes to that though, I’ve also emailed Constellation records and explained how I came into possession of the cassette. I’ve also explained that there is a rabid fanbase that would like nothing more than for me to post my rip of the cassette. I’ve asked them for permission to do so. I will not auction off the tape or post a rip of it until I hear from them one way or another. Perhaps I should have just posted the thing for sale but I want to do right by my family, the band, and for some reason…you guys too. I don’t imagine I will get a response from them on the weekend but I’m hoping to hear back from them soon. When I do, you guys will too.
Hopefully he gets full permission from Constellation to upload this. It is pretty much accepted that this is the real deal, mainly because of the detail on the cassette insert. Using the internet archive wayback machine, we can see that Constellation Records did in fact release complete scans of the cassette booklets, but they are not detailed enough to reproduce a complete fake booklet at the level of clarity that the OP has. Between the apparent authenticity of the booklet and Efrim singing on the sample, the general consensus is that this is the real deal.
An Indiegogo campaign has been launched in an attempt to buy the album, but nobody has donated to it yet.
Hopefully, Constellation allows him to release the cassette and/or re-releases the album using the original masters Efrim still has.
